Help us overcome language barriers

We're raising vital funds for Interpreters at Khora's Asylum Support Team (KAST). Every week, we support 15-20 individuals and families in accessing vital support, from hospital care to legal advice. The Interpreters are an essential part of this support, bridging the language and cultural barriers that otherwise exclude people.

Why donate?

Working together

At Khora, everyone is welcome. We strive to work with people - no matter what language they speak - to get the support they need. Khora's Asylum Support Team (KAST) is a community information and support service for everyone. We work together as a team of caseworkers and interpreters non-hierarchically - where everyone gets a say in how we run the service.

Overcoming language barriers

Without English and Greek it can be impossible to access basic services. Our caseworkers at KAST know where to get support and can help people navigate a complicated and racist bureaucratic system. Without our Interpreters, people can't comfortably communicate. We not only translate, but also offer insight into different cultures and ways of seeing things. People often feel more at home when speaking in their own language and open up about their needs and stresses.

Fair pay

We know that it's financially hard for most of us to survive in Greece. Khora relies almost entirely on volunteers. But it can be difficult for refugees, asylum seekers and other migrants to get paid work. That's why we pay a fair wage to Interpreters - who are usually experiencing displacement themselves.

What is KAST?

Khora Asylum Support Team (KAST) is the case-working team of the Khora community: a self organised, volunteer run community centre in central Athens. We run regular drop in sessions and phone assessments where we offer information and support to people navigating the Greek asylum system, as well as assistance to people trying to access other services in Athens, such as housing and healthcare.
